Firehouse Chili Copycat Recipe
Firehouse Subs is known for hearty subs, but their Firehouse Chili is also a fan favorite. Made with ground beef, kidney beans, tomatoes, and spices, it’s rich, meaty, and full of flavor. This copycat recipe captures that same comforting taste.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 red bell pepper, finely diced
- 4–5 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 (15 oz) cans dark red kidney beans, rinsed & drained
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- ¼ cup chili powder
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- ½ cup beef broth or water (if needed for thinning)
Instructions
- Brown the Beef
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until fully browned. Drain off excess grease. - Cook the Vegetables
Add onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for 5–7 minutes, until softened. - Add Spices
Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using). Cook for 1–2 minutes to release flavor. - Combine & Simmer
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and kidney beans. Stir well. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. - Slow Cook
Cover and simmer 1–2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add beef broth or water if chili gets too thick. - Serve
Ladle into bowls and serve with crackers, shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped onions.
